I had the big idea to change my bulbs to LED’s. Changed the left rear and the turn signal wouldn’t work. So I changed them back and still nothing. Any ideas before I tear into it?

Check for a bad bulb socket with a multi-meter. Over time the contacts get loose. Pull the hazard switch, then check the turn sigal contacts for voltage...btw...led bulbs are picky when it comes to which way they install in the socket

Diodes are gateways that only let voltage flow in one direction.

I just filled in my rear housings with strips of white led lights, wiring them in series, the bulbs available on the market are useless. I purchased a roll of 12 volt led strip lights off ebay $8 for approximately 5 feet). There are 6 leds per section (they have lines that indicate how often they can be cut). I attached the strips to the inside of the housing in rows...wallah, brighter lights and cheap at that.

If you can solder, it's quite easy.

There is also a website called "super bright leds", and they carry all sorts of leds as well

LEDs draw much less than incandescent bulbs and need an LED flasher to be installed in order to flash properly. As for the brightest bulb, its hard to say since there are a million companies making them. Try to find one with the most SMDs. Something like the pic below

They have other styles that only have forward facing diodes that will not help your cause. Stay away from these:

Finally, you need to match the color of the led to the color of the lens it will be behind for best results. Amber LED behind amber, red led behind red.
