Hi all. New to this forum and this is my first post.

I am going to look at an 82 k10 this coming week.
The only real issue is it having a steering box with a really bad leak.
I was wondering if it would be safe to make the 2 hour drive home. Mostly highway driving.

Thanks for the replies

depends how much its leaking?

You can get a reman box for around $300 but you will want it home first to work on it.

I had an '84 that leaked from the pressure hose. Drove it for a while with the pump squealing and low fluid. Never caused any problem, but you'll definitely get a workout.

Thanks to the both of you. Ive driven vehicles without power steering, just never with bad power stearing. Wasnt sure if there was a difference in the drive quality. I do olan to gdy a reman box or reseal the leaking one, i just need it home first.

Driving a non-power steering vehicle is much easier than driving a power steering vehicle without power steering working. It is about 2-3 times more difficult to turn the wheels.

You could take a couple bottles of power steering fluid with you and just stop every so often to top it off.
