So i think I'm going to be making a big change to the truck. I can get an L92 complete with all wiring and computer only missing AC compressor and power steering pump for 3k. Getting them as a pair I can get the 6l80 for another 2k. Both are factory new parts. I know the 4l60 would be an easy swap, but if love to have the 6 speed. So here's the question assuming I get the combo where do I go for transfer case or what are my options? From what I've seen getting the trans to fit shouldn't be too terribly difficult. I know I'll need custom drive shafts so I'm planning for that accordingly. Is there anything I'm missing in this process? Any unforseen nightmares awaiting me?

Thanks for the help ahead of time guys.

Thanks for the link, good info there. I called off-road design about a 205 set up for this and they said they have done a few of these and it wouldn't be anything for them to put one together. I've found a 6l80 out of a salvaged 07 with 85000 on it he's asking 650 obo for it so I'm going to see if he'll take 500.

I've got a lead on factory new l92 with everything minus AC and power steering pump for 3k. I'm figuring another 1500 for transfer case so this might not be as painful as I thought. I know I'll need a fuel system which i haven't priced or really figured out what i need yet. Also have to figure out what I'll need for a dash setup as far as gauges. I'm looking at a whole new Dakota Digital dash but don't know yet how they interface with an LS so I'll have to figure that out. BRP hot rods seems to have what I need for motor mounts and cross members to make the 6l80 fit without cutting. Plus fuel tank and and whole system.

Anything I'm forgetting here? I know exhaust, but that is relatively easy since I have no emission standards for my state.

Didn't ask before, is this on a C10 or a K10? Are you converting a C10 to K10/4x4? I ask because your info on the left says you have a C10.

Ok guys the project is officially a go.

So I found a 6l80 with factory transfer case attached. So my question is, is there any reason i can't run the factory transfer case? Just run the wiring and find a place on the dash or wherever for the switches for the 4wd? Or should I just plan on having a NP205 built for the project? I'm kind of liking the idea of using the factory set-up and just running the wiring. But i may be missing something.

Here's what I'm looking at.

the 6l80 transfer case have the front drive shaft on the drivers side (called drivers side drop). older vehicles are passenger side drop. Unless you've swapped in a different front axle, you'll need to do the NP205

I agree, go with the 205 case. You will need to put a shifter and linkage in your truck though. I was never a fan of push button transfer cases, nothing but problems with them.

Ok that was something stupid that I didn't think about, I'll just get a 205 from off-road designs then. I've got a shifter, I'm sure I'll have to change the linkage length depending on where the 6l80 pushes everything. I'm going with BRP hotrods for fuel system, motor and trans mounts. Then speed hut for gauges, I'll have to figure out how all that will interface with the ls but I'll get there. The GPS Speedo was a no brainier over the Dakota's. The only thing I've got to get figured out is cruise control. The truck came with it but it's missing all of the hardware from the previous owner. I'm not sure how that will work with running the LS 6l80 and 205 or it is something as simple running something off the ECU. My main concern is getting everything I think I'm going to need in hand before starting, minus drive shafts which in having a local shop make. I know I'll still forget something it as I get going I'll find things I'll have forgotten about. Thanks for the help guys, my hope is to have this wrapped up by April, my funds will be in hand by 2nd week of January so that gives me 4 months to get this built. I don't know if that is optimistic or a realistic goal, but I guess I'll find out.

Don't get the old style figure 8 205. Get the new style with the round 6 bolt adapter. It may just bolt right up to your 6l80 depending on the length of the output shaft on your trans.

Yeah I think they build them that way so it's a direct drop in from them. Don't have to source any extra adapters or anything bolt up and go.

There is also an NP205 rear support available from Trail Tech Fab. 860 3411883. The 205 is an awful lot of weight just hanging of the transmission. It's nearly twice the weight of an NP208.
