‘83 K5: I will be installing the LMC vinyl (MIP) flooring and would like to know alternatives to the underlayment insulation that was provided with the vinyl flooring. I have already sprayed Lizard skin ceramic thermal coating on the floor and I don’t necessarily need to have a sound deadening product. Is there a underlayment padding that provides more coverage area, doesn’t retain moisture and functions as a better underlayment? Has anyone used carpet padding or a Dynamat or similar product? Recommendations appreciated!

I used Jegs brand mat under my MIP . It comes in 12"x12" squares. Its like the old stick down vinyl tile.

I found the Jegs tiles but are 1/16” thick. I would like at least 1/4” thick padded product with an adhesive backing that will stick to the textured Lizard skin heat barrier that I sprayed on. I’m going to experiment with a Yoga mat or camping sleep pad and put double sided tape on it. Any other ideas?

Not sure what r value or noise reduction you would get from a yoga mat. Why 1/4" thick?

May want to test fit first and see how much thickness buildup you’ll need. Especially on the trans bump and the raised portion under the seats near the doors.
My carpet fits “big” and needs more padding in those areas to fit tight.
I slapped it together a couple years ago but when the seat comes back out to do the stereo, those areas need built up some more.
YMMV with vinyl floor hence the test fit recommendation.
Amazon sells about a zillion different products in different thickness for this application

I cut and installed the 1/4” yoga mat using thick double sided tape over the sprayed in Lizard skin ceramic thermal coating and laid the vinyl MIP on top. Lots of work but now the floor has a nice durable padded feel to it.

Nice work! And duly noted. I think there’s a couple yoga mats around here. May use them when I build up the padding!
Great idea you had
