K10 front brake pads wrong thickness?

I've been rebuilding my front axle over the last couple months and am finally putting the new calipers and brake pads on. However, when I go to put the caliper on, the outer brake pad seems to be too thick. The caliper bolt guides don't have enough clearance to get over the lip on the threads of the dust shield.

Has anyone else had this issue before? The pads I have are Raybestos MGD52M, which has K10 listed as an application.


In these pictures the outer pad is snug against the rotor and snug inside the caliper.

I recently replaced my front pads and had this issue too. I had to push the bolt guides to the outside and grind a little of the pad off with an angle grinder to get the calipers on. After a test drive the hubs were quite hot so I removed the pads and ground a little more off. Problem solved and it now stops smooth and straight.

Yeah, I had some Advanced Auto Gold pads that I had to take back because of that.

Swapped them out at the store without any flak - counter guy said it seemed to happen on a semi routine basis.

Have not tried the new pads on the truck yet.

Really annoying as I think I can put pads on pretty well now, and oh wait - you can't ...

Fut.

Aftermarket parts FTMFW !

Hmm well looks like I will have to go pick up some pads at the parts store and see if they are any better.

The sad part is I have to file down the backing plate because the caliper doesn't have quite enough clearance to fit between the ears. There goes my shiny new powdercoat finish...

Just to clear this up, the pads I had ended up working well.

To correct the issue I was having, the inserts on the bolt eyes of the caliper have to be slid over so that they are flush with the inner surface of the bolt eyes. I was unaware that they could be moved when I first started doing the brakes.
