Wiring is another area where "you get what you pay for". I would not cheap out and Painless has a solid reputation. Unless Jegs can tell you who actually makes their harness and that manufacturer has a good reputation like Painless (or maybe it even IS Painless) then I'd spend the extra coin and go with the name brand.

^That's a good point, JEGs is not a manufacturer, they sub everything out. So I'd definitely want to know who built the harness before I bought it

Thanks guys, I was leaning that way (Painless) just doing due dilligence and checking around. Now to see If I can catch a sale or % off somewhere. :)

I got a harness from speedway, it was easy to install with good directions and came with all the connectors and switches. Was very high quality

Check American Autowire, I don't have any personal experience with them but I've read a lot of good feedback for them vs other brands.

I checked into a Painless kit once and I didn't like the fact that for the (high) price the harness is unfinished. For that kind of money, the harness should be finished and plug & play.

I used an 18 circuit harness from Summit Racing. It was great quality and less coin than Painful. Summit and Jegs probably have the same source I might imagine.

Yeah, that was kind of odd on Painless sight. What exactly was different between 18 20 22 ect. I couldn't find where they spelled out the differences.

Probably Labor Day will yield a discount I'm betting

I've used both Painless and American Autowire. I was much happier with the American Autowire harness. But no they're not cheap.

Good information in here. I really need to do this to my 82. A shop quoted me 3k to do it. That sounds a bit high to me. If I had a good one with really good instructions (because I'm not the best with this)I'd give it a shot. Painless are like 800 bucks from what I've seen.

I helped a friend with his Painful harness. POS in my opinion and their customer service would have been better if they'd stayed home.

I’ve gone down the wiring rabbit hole trying to learn as much as I can.
Not all wiring is the same. I’d research the available brands and make your best decision on what you find.

I've put in quite a few wiring harnesses over the years and I have to say the fact painless has the book to tell you where each wire goes and the fact each wire is labeled through out it's length is a HUGE time saver.
