You did, and I mentioned that Murphy's Law says I have plenty of controllers when you needed the plate. If I only had plates, you'd need a controller.

if you can weld and fab,that bracket doesnt look like a big deal to build. why are you spending all of your $ on nos sheet metal?

I want an American Truck Not one with that Trash Taiwan... Put that on it and Here in the Rust Belts, That'll start bubbling after 3-4 years.
American made is the best made... plus 52K original miles. I take Pride & Passion with these trucks.

The reason I am looking for one. Restoring my Truck back to Stock & Genuine as it did off the Assembly line! That's the reason why the majority of these trucks and older will OUTLAST Anything newer than 1990... Because they were made to LAST. Not this TRASH THEY CALL TRUCKS TODAY.

i have to take issue with your point of view. the older metal was not better. new vehicles have way more corrosion protection than your '82. if you are going to weld in new rockers and not put rust protection in that void (think Ziebart or an Eastwood product) its going to corrode. if your argument for nos was fit and such i might agree with you to a point but to simply state that it is better metal and will last longer is voodo science.by the time you buy a nos floor pan you will be broke and the only ones that will know it's nos is you and everyone you tell.

Where i live there re very very few 20+ yr old vehicles still running. The units that are have daylight shinning through them.

hey shiftpro i hear you, but the suggestion is that nos metal is better and will last longer than offshore metal. i'm in PA and the rust issues are real here too. my point was that with the proper protection from the elements,the offshore metal is just as good. i'm not telling anyone how to spend their $, but when nos metal drains your $ reserves to the point that you only have $40 in your pocket for an essential part, it might be the time to reevaluate your priorities

Since none of these trucks is ever going to get a Concours restoration you could easily fab that plate without even welding. Use a piece of 3/8" steel and just tap it for the sensor/controller. It will be better than the factory one. It for sure isn't going to warp and leak. You could probably get away with 5/16" or even 1/4" for that matter.

I see your point, And I'm starting to realize it's probably about the same. but the fact is that new aftermarket parts for these trucks just don't last... they are weak, thin and not made very well. bad fitment. I just want a Spot on Fitment with Genuine Steel. But since I still have $180+ Worth of Taiwan here in my House I put... I might just use the Floor From that I ordered. Also, I ordered that NOS Rocker somewhere in the last week of January and still hasn't shipped out. Say's will deliver Mar 11 - 19. So We'll see.

Sorry But I don't know how to weld. I was never thought.
Pops had a Flux Welder I helped him put the Metal cords rolls back into but that's it, Plus what I'm told Flux is like really ****** welds, I want like factory welds on my truck. Sorry, I'm picky.

I can't say anything about nos metal, I don't even know wtf is nos metal..? I'm a Canadian maybe that's why.
But US made metal from days gone by was by far superior to anything today, I don't care where it comes from. Well, there hasn't been much steel produced in the US as of lately anyway come to think of it. As matter of fact thanks to Trump that's going to change if ya didn't know already. You know China has been dumping cheap steel on the US for some time now, to the point several of your best steel plants closed down as sales went for a **** with all the cheapo
China steel on the market.
The new trucks have all these multi-steps to prevent corrosion.
1. selling point
2. hope the fricken trucks hold together for as close to ten yrs as possible


We're still fortunate we can get skins for our trucks, even if they are far from perfect it's better than FA.
Mind you I have seen cab corners that fit so bad... they were never installed. Hand forming cab corners with English wheel metal stretchers doesn't seem
so bad at that point. But fenders.... eeesh not for me!:eek:

Might want to be very cautious about Ziebarting. From almost every where I hear/see that it makes them rust worse as it holds in all of the moisture while looking shiny and black on the outside as you can never really get the base material clean enough for 100% adhesion so pockets of moisture and crud get trapped. Fluid film or melted wax mixed with boiled linseed oil is a better choice as it can breathe and wont trap moisture in. But I do 100% agree that it needs to be protected after install and be maintained.

I'm not trying to blow holes in the whole NOS versus aftermarket thing, but the inner and outer rockers (and essentially one/two of everything else) I bought for my 79 are the within 0.004 of the OG metal with primer and 2 layers of paint on it (so essentially the same thickness deducting thickness of paint), nothing that would be noticed in welding. Now I will agree that the steel is of lower quality, but still welds fine (both flux core and tig) and for all of the patches I have purchased and used which include but are not limited to- rockers, cab corners, both inner and outers, kick panels, floors, bed patches have all fit pretty good. This inner rocker was fusion welded with tig and had no issues at all, both driver and passenger sides lined up to where the outer and inners were spot welded at the bottom from the factory. Also the cost of NOS metal like that is outrageous (don't get me wrong, I love me some NOS GM stuff and have a small stash of stuff), I paid 200 for my 79 as a complete truck with a good title (yes it's a crust bucket and it hadn't ran/moved since 1995, but engine runs now and full resto in progress). Finally, when my 79 was re-painted somewhere between 79 and 93, so at max no more than 14 years old, the cab corners, wheel arches, and floors had already rusted off and were caved and paved over with body filler. So while some things were built to last, some things didn't fare too well due to poor drainage and metal layered on top of each other.
