Is it time to scrap the 16.5" wheels?

Ive been looking for a lighted one for my truck

Sort of went out of style for awhile I think. My eyes are light sensitive, so I like having them more for that, don't care what it looks like.

I like them for the looks. I like the lights too. I had one for my gmt400 burb but never got it on

These are 15” 8 lug with 35” BFG MTs
And I don’t like the BFGs
They wallow around a lot
The Firestone MTs are much better but aren’t available in 15, only 16 and up

Had to grind a some metal off of the brake calipers to get the 15” rims to fit

Thanks for the input guy's ! I'd love to go with those military 37's, but I also suffer with the short garage door syndrome ! Those will never clear with 2.5" lift. Probably will go with 305 or 315 17, would even consider 285' if the price was right. Hoping to find something used.

I have a 1979 C20 and am way overdue for new tires. I was also thinking about ditching the 16.5" wheels, but am not sure what to get. I'm currently running LT9.5QR-16.5 Kumho Road Venture AT 825 D. I was looking at getting a tire/wheel package from TireRack, maybe some 16x8 Ultra wheels with a -6mm offset. Is that what I need? What is preferable for this 8-lug 2WD truck? Would 8-165 wheels for a 2001-2010 2500, 3500, Express Van work?

The wheels from the newer trucks up to 2010 fit our trucks. Not sure about back spacing for 2wd.

Just missed a smoking deal on 5 Level 8 wheels with Cooper 285 70 17 tires. God forbid I score a great deal on something !! That's my life.

I ended up ordering some Ultra Type 164 Polished 16x8's with -6mm offset with 245/75R16 Kumho Road Venture AT51's from TireRack.

That's the dilemma we all have with 16.5 wheels. I love my old slots and wanted to keep them, but couldn't find a 16.5 tire that I just felt like I had to have. the only thing that was remotely close to something i'd consider was the vortracs from interco. I emailed BF Goodrich and asked if they were ever going to make another run of 16.5 AT's and they pretty much laughed at me in their response. And that "Big wheels were the craze and those old wheels just aren't the thing anymore" so I told them "I had a real truck that I actually used and wasn't some luke bryan listenin', mall crawlin', pavement poundin', gotta have dem 22's with my bejazzled pants, ma' square toed boots, and my man bun havin' boyfriend ridin' shotgun sum'bitch" Started looking and found that US Mags make a modern 17" slot but at $250ish for a bare wheel (17x10 8 lug) I was looking at a total tire package right around $2,500 and just didn't feel like spending that kind of money at the time. the AT's on my slots were SHOT though so I put a stock wheel setup on the truck this summer to drive it safely and that's my dilemma I now have, as I've kind of fallen in love with the stock look all over again. The only thing I wished is that being a 1 ton is that they were the wide wheels instead of skinny's. Now in the meantime through some horse trading with a good buddy of mine this fall, I've acquired a set of 33x12.5/16.5 BF Goodrich AT's on American Racing wheels that the tires are pretty much brand new. Obviously older tires, but no checking, or dry rot and better than 90% tread on all of them. So now my plan is to clean up my existing slots this winter, polish them up and then mount the tires I got from him back on them and have my slots to put back on the truck. But there's still that stock look it currently has that's growing on me... Or I could clean them up, mount and balance and sell them as a set and then go buy me some new 10" wide stock wheels in 16" and throw new tires on them and run it with that factory look. I hate decisions! Lol

I went through the same dilemma this year when I got my tires and wheels. I've always had 16.5's on my Squares and most of the time I had American Outlaw II's. I didn't like the look of the hole size with the 16" wheels though. Then I thought about a wide OEM wheel, but I couldn't find a set of Dana 60 front hub caps at a reasonable price. I considered the US Mag 5 slot, but I like you didn't want to spend the money.

For you truck, I think eventually I would go back to the stock look with a wider wheel. I like the trim rings in the picture below, but I think if the wheels were some type of grey color it would make them pop a little more.
