UPDATE!!! I WAS ABLE TO FIND OUT AND IT IS A CUSTOM DELUXE. Got the vin also had the old badge inside the glove compartment. !!!Hey what’s up everybody ! Just joined ! My grandpa recently passed me his 81 c20 with a 292 and im trying to order the badges for the fender. How can I tell if it’s the custom deluxe or standard cab ? Wanted to order badges but theres the Silveradoc20 and CustomDeluxec20..thanks !! I’ll post a picture too.

Look on the passenger side dash trim, there should be a matching emblem there (above the glove box area).

Does the tailgate say Chevy or GMC?

Look inside the glove box for an option sticker. I can’t remember the year it changed but it’ll either have a brief description of each option or just a list of 3 digit codes. If it just has codes you can google for “RPO code” and you’ll find several websites with code lists w/ descriptions.

There is a VIN decoder in the LMC Truck catalogs so I’d assume it’s on their website too. The decoder should verify the year and make but I don’t think it can break down the trim level.

It’s dark out so I’ll check for the vin in the morning man. Tailgate and grille say Chevy also the steering wheel has the logo. I’ll double check either way. Thanks man let you know tomorrow.

Welcome from VA. The VIN should at least break down if it was GMC or Chevy and where it was built, so that is a start. After market parts are everywhere so the trim on the dash, or the tailgate, or the grille could be what somebody had laying around. Lot's of VIN decoders on the internet that identify these old trucks. Would your Grandpa be able to fill you in or someone else in the family/friends?
