I have a '85 K-10 that I have been working on for about 5 to 6 month. It has not been cranked in at least that long. I charged the battery up and before I could get to the cranking part. I noticed that the dome light and courtesy light will not turn off when the doors are closed. I tried the headlight switch to see if it was in the "inside lights on" position and it was not. Any suggestions on why the would not go off? I replaced both of the door switches but they still stay on.

The switches are providing a ground path to turn on the lights. So if the wire gets pinched or wore through somewhere and it can touch metal it’ll make the lights stay on

You're pretty lucky if you ask me. Most people can't get the dome lights to work at all.

1985c20 is right... things to check. Check the door pin switches.. You can unscrew them and see if the white / tan wire is attached to the back. If there isnt a wire attached, then it probably fell off or got pulled. The connector is not insulated and could just be touching ground. if you pull out the switch.. If there is a wire attached to the pin.. see if the dome light went off with the pin switch out, if it did.. then you have a faulty pin switch.

Another thing to check is the headlight switch. if you twist the knob it is the 'dimmer' for the dash lights. As you twist it to get the dash lights brighter, it will soft stop.. keep twisting it will click.. that click turns on the dome lights. I think turning left is brighter, right is dimmer. (I think)

Could be a bad headlight switch

edit - i just re-read your post.. you basically did everything i just mentioned. Though I think the Drivers door has 2 wires .. one was the key buzzer and one was the dome light. So if you see 1 wire, the other might be disconnected.
