Has anyone used Inline Tube trans cooling lines in an 81-87 C10 with a TH350 trans?

Had to return a set made by Right Stuff to Summit Racing, because they weren't even close to fitting.

Never tried one of them, but had a bad experience (and under hood fire) when a rubber transmission cooler line burst while on the highway. Since then, I dont install transmission coolers with rubber lines. I have been tireless looking for fittings that properly connect to the oem flared hardlines in order to bypass the radiator, but haven't found anything yet.
I would really like to have a transmission cooler in my 87 700r transmission especially since I just had it completely rebuilt.

Cut your old fittings off, then find tubing the correct diameter and then bend and flare it to fit!

There's always the hard way too...bend all your own tubes. That's what I did. :D

Really nice job, man! I did a pair for my 69 C10 many years ago, and it was a PITA. I actually have a partial roll of 1/4" that I could use for patterns. How did you do it?

Yep nice job!

What did you use for tubing ? And do you happen to have the part #s for those fittings you used to go through the rad support ?

Nicely done. I need to do this to my '88. Don't want to fry the 700r. What brand of trans cooler did you use?

Thanks man!

I actually used an old wire coat hanger and bent it up for each section, then bent my line to match the coat hanger. It worked out pretty well.

I don't have the part number off hand, I just grabbed them out of the bucket at the Parker store. They are 90* -6AN/JIC bulkhead fittings, that should be enough to search them out, I think.
The Parker store is a great source for these kinds of things, if you have one local. Bins and bins of JIC/AN fittings, and they'll even make up hoses for you with whatever ends you want. I would probably go that route for the trans cooler side of the core support if I had to do it again. I had to make some tight bends to clear the core support coming out of the bulkhead fittings.

It's a B&M SuperCool stacked plate cooler. I've been very pleased with it. It's a lot more sturdy than the tube and fin variety, and it's supposed to cool better too.

I tired a coat hanger, but it just wasn't rigid enough for me.

Re the B&M Super Cooler, I ran the smaller version on my 69 C10 for extra cooling with a 2000-2200 stall converter. Very nice piece indeed. The ATF hose is nearly 15 years old and still looks good.

Yeah, I worked my way through a few crappy coat hangers before I found a nice "vintage" one that was pretty heavy duty.
