Latest on this project- removing all the damn vacuum lines on a 250-6 with integrally stupid head. I'm also working on finding a valve tap, but thats the gravy to drive me into this mess. So. I have a new valve cover bargain coming from LMC, but it only fits my early non stupid head. So, I have to use this valve cover for now with all the damn holes. No big deal. OK, Back to it. I pulled all my stuff out easy Nothing was tight. Mixed metric and SAE sizes. I've ordered bolts.. ¾-16 and I'm gonna shove them into the head, which is tapped to ¾-18. A non standard size. I found them on McMaster as they have everything. 5 bolts for $11.74 plus shearing. IF they fit I will remove the pipes, but the valves that do the puffing are working perfectly as check valves, So I have the option of putting everything back. I'm gonna do a factory manual rebuild (its in the book for this damn Rochester varijet 2) I was running lean, so I'm gonna rejet for our 5800' altitude here. I broke 2 of the NGKs I removed, so I ordered Delco. I' gonna take the of the valves by standard adjustment factory procedure. If the plugs work, more than half of the vacuum lines will be gone. I'm going to replace the metal lines with hose sections for all hose, then zip tie em neatly. all new. If a system works and makes sense, it will remain. So. will keep you informed when plugs arrive friday. More parts coming. Gonna rebuild this carb soon.
There's a circuit to delay vacuum advance-- Gone This will be fun. And I have diagrams.
But, I think I'm gonna have this stupid valve cover for a while . Till I get the money to replace the head. and manifolds, and exhaust
