Hi! Me again. Trying to learn more from the Forum Gurus. The 1984 K10 that I recently bought seems to have all of the original running gear but I don't know if that is correct. The engine is a 305 built in late 1983 and matches the VIN. The Auto Trans is a 700R4, again built in late 1983, The Transfer Case says it's a 203 (cast iron) but I read somewhere that the 203 was only used thru 1979??? The differential is a 3.08. It has locking hubs but I am told those don't work with a 203 Transfer Case. In case you are wondering, I'm 80 years old and not the sharpest pencil in the box, so your experience and advice is sincerely appreciated Thanks!

Well welcome to the forum!
You’re correct, original t case is a NP 208.
Look up gmheritagecenter.com. You can see all the specs for each year truck.
I just googled 84 Chevy truck specs and it popped up.
I’d say it was swapped. I’m not familiar with the part time kit for 203 equipped trucks but very likely your truck has that.

Thanks Grit Dog,
I am learning a lot I bought this truck from the widow of the original owner and she knew nothing about it. It is a rust free Arizona truck in pretty good shape for a 38 year old vehicle. I will check out that GM site. How can I tell if it has a part time kit? is it worthwhile to change to a 208 Transfer case?

MY BAD - IT HAS A TAG THAT SAYS "208 C" ! 80 year old eyes suck!!!
