Are you able to confirm circulation? we just dealt with an impeller coming off of the pump on my buddys 91 5.0 camaro.....same pump as the gen1 vortec. the heater hose is just a bypass, i wouldnt think it would matter if you had an air bibble in it or not, your gauge is reading from the drivers side head, and the t stat is just above that. if the pump is ok, i would say take the stat out, and see what happens. maybe flush the system real good.

from the start of reading this thread i was thinking air locked.
in a buddies shop he had a chevy car air locked really bad he ended up using a electric pump to push coolant threw the motor it was weird. i never seen one that bad before or sense.

I am still not really 100% sure what it was, ive never had any air lock issues on 350's before. I did notice a light sticking of the thermostat. I figured just incase ide thow a new one in it and I also filled the block full of coolant before putting it all togather. So far doing those things its been fine.

Yah, I posted that when my head cracked it didn't leak water into the crankcase, just out the exhaust and I was hoping that would be good news for ya.

I musta been on my iPod and it didn't go through for some reason.
