I bought a Jeep to fit my winch.....

Yea you read that right. I was really on the fence about selling my winch, has some sentimental value. But I didn’t really want it on the truck. Sooo now I have a Jeep for the winch to go on. Lol bought it today for $150. Drive train is all there. From what I can tell, it just needs seats and a roll bar. To get going at least. Has a six cylinder of some sort. Manual transmission. And it was built somewhere between 1955 and 1975. Maybe someone here can help me decide the serial number.

Immediate plans are to get it running of course, put in seats, a roll bar, and a bikini top. And then go find the nearest mud hole. I do plan to repaint it and put it on the road, the body really isn’t in bad shape. It’s not totally beat to death. But, I’ll make sure I have a title first. It was bought at an auction, no title. But my dad sees the guy that sold it pretty regular, and we’re going to try to get him to file for a lost title. If that falls through, well then I’ll leave it at my parent’s farm and just play with it when I go down there.

I was thinking late 60’s also. But then I found a serial number decoder site, and according to the information there, this one seems to be a 59 model. I don’t know how accurate that information is. It’s based on the first few numbers.mine being 83xxx puts it in the 59 model range.

Close, but I think the Jeep's used the earlier 225ci V6. They called it the Jeep Dauntless. It was around from the mid 60's to mid 70's. I believe it has an "odd-fire" firing order and shouldn't be rewired like the mor modern '78 and newer 231 engines.

I had a 1969 CJ-5 with the factory Buick 225 V-6. 175hp, 3-spd with the Warn overdrive. It would climb a tree. Horrible, tiny 9" drum brakes, loose jeep steering. Pedals come up from the floor. Miserable to drive - I loved it.

Upgrade the brakes to 74 or later Cj5 11" drums, grab the swing pedals while you're at it, change over to a Chevy Saginaw steering box and Chevy tilt steering and it will be WONDERFUL. Plus it's all cheap and easy to do
