So its easier to remove the exhaust manifolds instead of disconnecting the exhaust pipe from the manifold.

I seen a guy one time, came across a 8 or 10 ft stick of railroad track.

Not the type of thing you can just walk off with. A ten-foot section of main track line would be around 430 pounds. So you would need a hoist to get the track to build a hoist.

not for me, reach under and spray them bolts alot and impact them off, most of the time they break but they come off and out. If the head side bolt breaks sometimes it can be a pain to get the manifold off the head due to limited room.

If have to take exhaust manifolds bolts. Then I'll run the for 20 minutes or so til their good and hot plus spray some PB Blaster on them to while running. Then remove the bolt while hot so they wont break off.

If the head is heated they will come out easy. If the bolt gets hot it will swell a few thousandths of an inch and may be harder to get out. So if it don't work at first keep trying as it cools. Hopefully the bolt will cool before the head will and they'll break loose.

If you seen this biggo redneck bubba, he could walk off with a 12 ft stick of track. Glad I never had to carry it. Actually if its that heavy, it may very well have been 8 ft. I know there was enough room to get a full size pu under it, and still stand between the A frame and the truck on both sides. Barely, but it could be done.

Unless you are in a huge hurry and really like bashing the crap out of your sheetmetal with the 700 lbs of engine and tranny that will be swinging on your hoist do your self a favor. Pull the core support! It is held in by about a dozen bolts that are all real easy to get to and once done the whole front of the truck is open to you. You can then remove the engine and trans at about waist height instead of going the Mt Everest route over the radiator.

Doing it this way allowed me to pull and replace my engine ALONE, which may not impress anyone but it was the first time I had ever done it and it impressed the hell out of me LOL

never had one bash around on me, just gotta be slow and careful. Not tomention if you got a/c that crap don't cut it. Not if you plan to save the a/c or can't afford to have it drained and refilled to keep it.

I wanted to pull my clip but the a/c stopped me, then low and behold the freakin thing sprang a leak about a year and half to 2 years later. Now it's all gone.

Yeah, I say remove the hood, be cautios, and it can easily be done with a hoist without removing the front of the vehicle. Now in a Van, no choice. I am not looking forward to if I ever have to pull that 460 out of the 93 E-350 Box Van. Oh hell that will suck hard core.

NO, this 460 isn't coming out of this cab. Its gotta come out the front I'm sure.
I have heard in some vans they come thru the rear slider door, but that's not gonna happen here, and I know that 460 won't come thru the side passenger door.

It's easier to change the plugs in a V8 Astro than it is a V6.

The radiator support comes out of vans easy enough...

I think it was about a 80, I did a motor rebuild in a 80 Chevy Van once. It was a 250 integral head motor. That was bad enough. I can only imagine how tough it'll be to get this 460 out of my van.

Remember those old old Chevy Vans with the mid engine? The engine was like between the driver and passenger seats, and the trans was actually behind the front seats??? On those, I was told you actually had to have a lift to get the motor out. Cuz you actually disassembled the motor, blocked it up, then lifted the van up off the motor and rolled the motor away, then you put the van back down and rolled it out of the shop, unless of course you have your new motor right there ready to go back in it.

You have to drop the subframe on my van to change engines...Meaning I will have to raise the van body up after unbolting everything.

I pulled a 350 out of an 84 stepside with a 6 inch lift without removing the core support. Like it was mentioned earlier just go slow and easy and have somebody spotting the engine.. There is plenty of room to work with once the fan shroud is out
