ok... so after working on it some more.
first, I have adjusted the floats, which were correct before the renew, but after were too high. They always leaked out of the boosters, both primary and secondary. This both took two adjustments after it was put back together... stupid "non" adjustable floats. (you have to pull the float bowls and bend the float hanger.)
I put on new hoses for the dizzy and whatever the one thing is on the passenger firewall and I guess they really needed to be replaced as the carb started to run better.
this is a mechanical secondary. and after working on it some, when I loosened the idle mixture screws it would backfire through the carb. So lean back fire, correct? So then tighter means more rich... right? The needles are only 1/2 a turn out.
Also, what I thought was a choke (like an idiot) isnt a choke, its just the choke pull off. This carb does NOT have a choke on it. These cold mornings are fantastic without a choke.
which brings me to my last question. The carb had a 8.5 PV in it. I thought while rebuilding it was running rich. With the POS rebuilt q-jet, I was only getting 10 in of vacuum. So I thought that I would put the 6.5 in it. Now, when I roll into the throttle specifically off idle or off cruise, it "coughs"/backfires through the carb. Still thinking PV I was researching this morning and it seems like its still a lean backfire. The measurement of vaccum to determine the PV; Is that done in gear or in park? I have 18/19 in of vacuum in park, which should mean the 8.5 or I have 14 in drive which should be the 6.5. Just going by the "cough" and hesitation, Im guessing I should throw the 8.5 in it.
