Need to get rid of some things for college expenses, and I'll probably post at least one or two more times just trying to get a feel for what you guys think about this stuff. I already asked about the Reese Towpower hitch so we're good there. I'm considering getting rid of my big boat, which it's a 1989 Renken 2688, I believe. Haven't looked at the paperwork in a long time, but me and my dad were co-owners, now I'm the sole owner. I really like the boat and would like to get it going at some point, but I know that would be at least several years, and I need money for tuition, fees, etc. It's got OMC 5.0, which I guess is just a Ford 302 marine motor. Only thing that it had wrong with it was cracked exhaust manifolds when it was last ran, but it'll need new fuel and all the other stuff that you do when a car sits. Trailer tires are new. It's got a cabin, and all the goodies that come with boats this size. We paid 14K for the boat, and someone offered my dad 10K a few years ago, but he clearly declined. I'm not totally sure on what I'm gonna get rid of just yet. The Reese hitch is a definite, as is an appx. 35 foot flatbed gooseneck trailer. I'm not ecstatic to get rid of this, but I will if I have to, and there's a 2500 gallon fuel trailer, plus or minus 500 gallons. It's in the same boat as the boat, though. Do you guys think that the boat could fetch 12K, or was the 10K offer more reasonable. I hate to sound greedy, but I'm just trying to make some money off the more extraneous stuff that I can't really do anything with right now so I don't put myself in a financial bind down the road.

I'm not a boat guy and I could be completely wrong about this, but based on what I've seen reading the trader type magazines, you will have a hard time getting decent money out of it. Again, I know basically nothing about boats.

No worries, thanks for replying. I'm afraid of exactly that. My plan is to see if the guy who made an offer before would still be interested for the same or close. That's my only lead, though.

Boat looks in nice shape, if it don't need a bunch of glass work it could bring in a decent dollar from the right people, only drawback is the OMC but there are diehard OMC people out there too, just have to find the right person, not my style boat but lot of people like those..

It's a-okay glass wise. Cosmetically, it just needs a wash. Mechanically, it'll definitely need new batteries, and then there's the engine situation. If I didn't sell it, I think it'd be a fun project to dig into one day. Maybe build a hot 351 marine motor to replace the gutless turd that's in it. I think it'd be nice.

Except the OMC won't take it, would need to put an Alpha in.

Did you check NADAguide for an estimate? Fill out the options list and it will give you a pretty good idea what it's worth. Fair warning, Renken is out of business and it's a nearly 30 year old boat. NADA doesn't care about your boat's history or the fond memories you have with it so be prepared for a kick in the nuts on it's value.

Hmm, they said ten grand. That's what the guy offered a few years ago. That's about in the ballpark of what I was expecting. I'll ask a little more when I list it, and I'll leave my bottom line at ten. Thanks for sharing that with me! I think I did that for my RV that I sold last summer, but I didn't think to do it for the boat.

It's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, and there's always that someone out there that can't live without it, just have to find that person, LOL..

True, true. Sucks about the motor thing. I just figured they'd use SBF motor mounts, and you can go on about your business. If I don't end up getting rid of it, looks like I've got some stuff to learn.

Makes perfect sense. I just seen it and thought might want to see what others are asking for similar.
