How much does a Stepside bed weigh?

I might have found a Stepside bed for my 78 short box, and am wondering about how much it weighs. I am hoping to drive down to Denver to pick up the truck next week, and would like to grab the bed at the same time. My trailer is not big enough to put both on, so I will have to put it in back of one of the trucks (tow rig, or 78). Can a couple of guys man handle it, or will I need to rent a cherry picker?

That's what I am afraid of. I think the seller may have a lift, to load it on my trailer, but I will need to take it off the trailer when I get to my sons house. We are sheet rocking his garage, and I will need the trailer empty to haul the Sheetrock.

That's the easy part put in reverse and hit the brakes hard! Lol

That gets it off, but I have to load it back up again when I come home.

Two people can get one on/off a pickup frame or a trailer without much trouble at all. But getting it up high enough to go on the bed of a truck, that would be a different story.

Yeah, I was thinking of putting it in back of one of the trucks, possibly on top of the bed, with a couple of 4x4's across the bed to hold it up. My trailer is 18' long, I wonder if I could stand it on end, in front of or behind the shortbox.

My dad and I could move my long bed stepper without too much trouble. I think a short bed would be no problem. Though hoisting it up on top of a truck bed could be tricky.

Lol, this thread just reminded me of a funny sight from several years back. I watched two scrap collectors put an 8 foot bed from an old Ford on top of their Econoline van. They got it up there and it fell off the other side. So they flipped it upside down and put it back up there again. Then tried to get in the van but the bedsides were blocking the doors, so they had to climb in the windows.

When I bought a replacement long bed at the pick and pull, they used a forklift with long arms to remove my old bed and put the replacement back on. They even drove the replacement bed through the yard while on the forklift, since my truck was parked out front.

I use my engine cherry picker to move my k10 long bed around my shop. But using that idea, you might be able to back the trailer over the legs of the picker, hook chains into the bed holes using anchors and lift the bed off the trailer slightly and drive away. The trailer I am thinking of is a car hauler type not a GN deckover type of trailer.

That's how I took mine off, used the cherry picker to take off the cab too, lol..

The mud race guys like the stepsides because they're almost 200 pounds lighter than the fleetsides. Two people should be able to do it but be sure to eat your Wheaties.
