How I hate electrical issues...

I soldered and used heat shrink on them. I used to build connectors for electronic equipment on ships so no worries there. It's just scary to think what people think is ok to do to even just get them by. But since we are only human we are all guilty in some fashion of that.

I concur. It blows my mind lmao. The p.o. of my square was the "retard" who used solid copper wiring, wire nuts and multiple connectors on a single circuit. As far as the mentioning of a fire extinguisher, that was also due to his "electrical genius" as well. I had a fire in the truck 2 weeks after starting the rebuild due to his negligence and plain old stupidity.

I totally understand about hating electrical, regarding the harness running to the rear, I did exactly that, except I used a 7 wire trailer harness, so i had an extra wire for my electric trailer brake, and for a rear mount light that I use with a toggle for extra lighting while backing up in sketchy territory, or hooking up said trailer. Works like a charm, and no extra wiring needed.

One of the wires I ripped out was for the trailer brake control that I have in cab. It will be removed as well I just don't want to open up the brake line just yet to remove it. The other 2 wires to the control have been removed already. It will be nice to get rid of all the splices in the cab too when I rebuild the truck.

Well, the gremlins are back. Right turn signal will blow fuses now. Before I start tracking down the right turn signal wiring short I have a question.

PO installed LED trailer lights for the rear lights and had the LED flasher installed. I replaced the trailer lights with the proper lights since trailer lights don't have back up lamps. I put the hazard flasher in the turn flasher spot and vise versa. Would the LED flasher in the hazard spot make a difference? I don't think it would since I've had the brake lights installed for over 2 yrs now but thought I should ask.

When I first bought my truck, my flasher relay went out. After replacing the relay, I tried testing everything. Nothing worked. I couldn’t figure it out after hours of troubleshooting.

Turns out, I accidentally flipped one of my blackout switches. Sometimes I overlook the most simple cause or solution.

Those old Teknosha and Kelsey Hayes hydraulic tapped trailer brake controllers are dead reliable. No need to rip it out. It's period correct. If the original installers bodged the minimal wiring you can clean it up.
If you intend to tow with it just run a Blue 12 ga SXL wire from the trailer controller to the plug out back along with the same gauge White SXL wire from the J-Stud on the firewall for the breakaway battery charge terminal in the trailer socket. I usually solder a 14ga fusible link between the White wire and the J-Stud connection to protect the 12ga White wire. The Blue and White wires were factory installed with the camper and towing packages.

Is your truck a CUCV? I haven't heard of a blackout switch on a civie truck.

So, apparently I missed a clip after chasing the wires to the back 2 weeks ago. The wires landed on the exhaust and it melted the right side wire and shorted it out. Repaired wire and installed the loom into the clip. Time for a beer. Cheers.

Thoughts?

Replace the bulbs with normal ones
To make sure the existing ones are not shorted or causing a short

A lot of the LED ones have slightly mismatched studs
