You mean reese or you talking about ball hitch or pintle, or...??? 2 1/2" externally welded 1/4" wall box steel can make for a good home made 2" reese. Dad made one for the front of his truck for super heavy duty use, I'll have to get pics for ya though. It is set up on a steel brush guard/push bar and tied into the frame, built to handle a removable 16,000 pound electric winch. On the back of my truck someone welded a piece of 1/4" plate approximately 3" wide along the bottom of the bumper the length of between the frame rails, then cut a commercial 2" reese down and welded it to the plate. I have yanked many trucks and tree stumps with it but it is slightly bowed now. 3" x 3" x 1/4" thick angle iron might have been more structurally rigid.
