This is a hook that holds the cross bar links of a tire chain, to the side bar chains.
The tarp stretcher hook is a side bar link with one side sawed through then the ither side heated to red, then twisted 90*and then welded to the criss bar retainer.
Then more side bar links are sawed and twisted to make a set for each tire.
This is a rear wheel all nicely snubbered.
And a front tire/wheel.
Note:I soaced the front wheels out, IIRC, 3/4” to keep the chains from rubbing acrost the tie rod ends.
I know this is not a square body, nor even a pickup truck, but the principle still applies.
