I have a quarter size hole in the roof of my cab. I tried welding a smaller hole next to it but I burnt right through, any ideas how to get rid of it?

I think C4 did some repairs on his roof.

Turn your heat and wire speed down and just do spots. Zap, let it cool a sec, zap, cool, zap, cool, etc. Unless the surrounding metal is thin from rust too. If so you'll need to cut out the bad, square it up and use a piece of sheet metal to patch it.

For the larger hole, find a washer the right size and weld it in, then you just have to fill in the little center hole. Like C4 said, turn the wire speed down and the heat even more.

Make a sun roof! When there's an opportunity to fix might as well upgrade!

Believe me, a sunroof in a square is NOT an upgrade!

I had to fix a truck that had one, actually 2 different ones that someone patched and re-patched, and as weak as our trucks' roofs are I would highly advise against it. Might be OK for a street queen but not a truck that might see any trail riding at all.

It depends on a lot of variables. My C10 has a quality sunroof that's the right profile and was properly installed. It's great. My Blazer has a cheap sunroof that's NOT the right profile (looks like it's for a VW bug) and was not properly installed. It sucks.

2wd? Mine is 2 wd and I find myself off road alot. The sunroof would not be an "upgrade" most would want.

My apologies, I did not intend to be insulting.

If you're just down an old dirt solid field I doubt a sunroof would be a problem. I'm so anal though it would look factory.

I wouldnt try doing a regular patch, meaning filling hole with the quarter size patch thats just a hair smaller in diameter to fill in with the weld, i would put two strips of i/8 material behind it whatever you can fit through the hole 1/2 inch band for example either weld a tab or hold in place with a magnet, then spot onto the band with no fear of burning through. start the puddle on the heavy material and drag towards the roof material, stagger your spots around the circumfrence to keep the heat down then weld the two strips together lightly grind and then filler . the roof material from the factory has been stretched so much it was paper thin to begin with or if the hole is in a cemetrical location you could add roof lenses..... LOL good luck with it
