Hole in roof !

What is the hole in the roof of my truck for? I have same hole in both my 84, and 85 chevy trucks, thought it might be to pull wires for bed light, then thought, No, you could do that through the light hole.

My Suburban has that rubber plug , too (1980) .

Like said above, maybe for the factory CB option- ?

I install a low profile roof mount antenna on my previous truck for my dual band radio. The key is to find an antenna to match your frequencies you're using. Having a roof mounted antenna will increase the distance of the radio (due to better ground plane) over a magnetic mount or rollbar/bumper mount. Of course, it needs to be a tight fit or clean connection on the ground side.

Non factory, what are the odds, that one truck from Indiana, and one truck from Alabama , would have the same size hole, in the same location!

Pretty good odds really.

What's under the plug? A punched hole with rounded and painted edges, or a rough hole with bare edges (like from a hole saw)?

the holes are different sizes, one is 1 3/4 other is 1 1/2.

Looks like it was cut with a hole saw to me.

What I find odd is that there's actually plugs in the hole. Everything I've owned that had something mounted on the roof, the base was left behind to plug the hole.

I’d say the odds are as good as any other fleet or commercially used truck.
