Alright. I've searched and read. Searched some more. Checked all the websites selling the thing and can't find a real answer. I have a simple, easy one:

What size of bulb does the highliner speaker kit use?

I've tried 168 and 194 and no dice. It looks like that style of bulb socket but I can't get either to fit, so it's gotta be wrong. Don't necessarily want to keep buying packs of bulbs til I find one.

Thanks for the help.

I've gotta ask...
What's the "highliner speaker kit"?
It's a headliner that has speakers built into it that are directional towards your ears. They're OK. Not the best sound in the world. But it's a cool trinket to have I suppose. As shown in the link. No affiliation. Just an example.

What keeps those bulbs from fitting? Too wide? Too short? A little more info would go a long way.

They're ever so slightly to wide, like to the decimal millimeters. Either that or the "bulbous" center section of the bulb is too big. I took a caliper and measured best I could before I went to the parts store and 194 was the closest to the measurement width wise, plus the marker lights are the same, figured it'd be it.

However, doesn't fit. Hard to get a good thickness measurement with my caliper set due to how the dome light is recessed into the headliner. Not enough wire to pull the bulb socket out either, or fit the calipers up there. I can get creative and figure it out.

Moreover I was hoping someone else had a kit installed and could say and make it easy. It was installed by a previous owner and never had a bulb. I didn't care until I did the resto. I'll have to post a picture when I make it back to the shop.

Responding to myself and for future searches. I guess the bulb doesn't matter a whole lot, as long as it's the automotive "wedge" base type. I got a 158 bulb to fit. I had jimmy it a bit to get it in. Tried a few others after that and got them to go as well; all with the "W2.1x9.2d" base.

My problem was thinking it would just slide right in all smooth like, hence why I thought the bulb was wrong and asked.
