Picked up a ‘78 Chevy K10 at the local impound auction for $375. Replaces the ignition and battery and put a little fuel in the carb and it fired right up. Pretty lucky. Needs some work, want to make it a plow truck and restore it as well. It diesels after shutting it off sometimes, needs some exhaust work, the heater doesn’t move much air and the list goes on. Either way I’m going to start snooping through your posts and see if I can’t get back into the mechanic groove.

Welcome! Check that timing! My 305 will run-on if it’s too retarded and sometimes when it’s too advanced but not nearly as much. Shoot for 8-10* BTDC initial. As far as the heater goes, could be vacuum related, a mechanical problem, an issue with the ductwork, or some kind of blockage, but I don’t think squares are too bad when it comes to debris getting where it can hurt the amount of air being brought in. I don’t want to give any discrepant information since yours is older than mine and heat only.
