Hi everybody! So my wife convinced me to buy this 1985 k20 from her dad that he found sitting in a near by field. I know not much about mechanical things but this truck got me learning quickly so far! After sitting for almost a decade it just needed a battery, a slave cylinder, air in the tires and some gas. The 4x4 works flawlessly! It drove the 90 min trip home just fine! All I know is it's a 350sbc, sm465 tranny, and I don't know about transfer case, I think the paperwork I found says it has 3:73 gears in the rear???? Either way I'm in love and it was only $600!!!!

So was it a good score? If so why? Should I keep the sm465? I'm sure it's great off road but around town driving is it going to cut it? I've gone through the electrics/wiring today. I hate the rims.

I'm just shocked, I never would have thought there was a whole community out there that's all about sqaure bodies! I mean seriously though, when you think of a truck, at least when I do, I think of a sqaure body!

Running truck for $600 is a good score period. A running K20(not that its hercules to a K10) in that shape is one of those you brag about(most people think just the 20 adds $$$). That transmission will be good to you. I agree on the rims.

Transfer case is either gonna be a
NP205-Hope for this one.
NP208-But this isnt bad.

Definitely a good score. It's a running k20, and it's worth more than that.
And I'd definitely keep the trans. It's a tough one, and would add to the appeal to me. Big rig style. :D
The rims aren't my cup of tea, either, but I don't think they're that bad. It could have come with cheap chrome 20s and spinners.
(Although with the sm465, that might have been pretty awesome. Lol)

SM465 is a keeper. Sure it's good for cruising around town. IMO, it's the best transmission going. If you are putting long highway miles on you might want something with overdrive.
