Hello from Oregon. I am a full-time student in pre engineering. I was in an automotive tech program and wasn’t having the best of times in the program so I decided to leave and start studying engineering since it was kind of ruining my passion for automotive.

I have a 78 Silverado k10 that I got when I was 15. My dad won in it a raffle and gave it to me as my first vehicle and a project for us to build together. Thus, began the obsession… It had about 50,000 original miles on it and ran and drove great. It was a Sunday driver for the owner before me so it was in really good shape and had an easy life. I drove it as is for a while my dad and I accumulated parts for it, to build it up and make it something special. The tranny eventually went out so we decided to pull her in and start the tear down.

We tore everything down to just the frame and the cab. It has all new bushing/rubber everywhere. There is nothing we hadn’t gone through or touched. Since it was a full time 4x4 truck we rebuilt both front and rear ends, and added locking hubs to the front and a new transfer case. We got a built 700R4 and put that behind the motor. The frame was all stripped, cleaned, and painted. New shocks, tires, and wheels. Went through all the wiring and re did a lot of it and added some electrical to it. New LED’s almost everywhere but still kept the original look. Motor was torn down and in great shape. We put in a RV cam, aluminum heads, rocker rollers, headers, and a weiand 144 roots blower.

There is a lot more I still want to do to it and don’t plan on ever getting rid of it. This is a truck I plan to hand down to my kids someday. Glad to be apart of the community and sorry if this was too long winded. Have a great day and here are some pictures.

Welcome from Vancouver, WA! That motor looks like it will do the job quite nicely.

Welcome! It’s nice to see other college occupied people doing this thing of ours. I just graduated myself, and I feel like I can see the light at the end of the tunnel on the major major stuff my square needs. Are they ever done, though? No.
