I started my GM career VanSlyke Rd. Flint on the half ton pickup line. I finished it in Bowling Green Assembly paint shop. Ordered the Big 10 Silverado stepside from Applegate Chevrolet in 79. Still have it in my garage. My best recollection I paid around 6,500 for it. Currently the 350 not running, body still in good shape as I didn't drive it in the winter. Getting interested in getting it rolling again. Joined here to consider re-power options. I'm sure you all have a wealth of knowledge more than me as I specialized in paint. I'm a big fan of my LS6 in my C5, still running great and uses no oil for 22 years.

Welcome from a fellow Michigander- my dad hauled cars for Bouthell/Ryder out of Flint. We lived in Atlas, just outside Goodrich before my parents divorced and my mom moved us to Waterford/Pontiac area.

LS6 eh? Sweet! LS version or OG big block?

The LS6 is in my stock Z06, just mentioned as it has been the best gas motor I have owned. The stock 350 in the C10 could be rebuilt. I didn't like it much for power or fuel mileage. So many options these days. I'm just getting started on inquiry. I haven't lived in Flint for a long time but get there often from Traverse City. When someone asked where someone was and we didn't know we would say gone to Goodrich. :D

Oh, sorry- missed that last sentence. I read LS6 and got all googly eyed, haha.

There’s a lot of options as you know. It doesn’t appear that the ubiquitous LS swap has taken over on this website, but there are some. When it comes time, ask away, you’ll get lots of input.

What year did you head to Bowling Green? My ‘81 shortwide was built in Flint. I remember Applegate Chevrolet, as I do Hank Graff, but that’s all I really recall.

If you’re looking for a ZO6 episode, Tony Angelo on Stay Tuned just did an episode on one.

My uncle loaned Mr Boutell the money to start his business.

I transferred to Bowling Green Assembly in 2006. We were building the C6 then, Z06 and ZR1. The 79 Silverado came in charcoal poly, light gray interior, 350/350, tilt/cruise, AC, PW, PL, LD, dual tanks. Looking forward to bringing it back. Current ride is another Flint Assembly Silverado 2500 crew cab duramax.

Welcome from the Tarheel State. I'm awful fond of the '79 as I have a pair of them; C20 Crew and C30 Crew Dually. My dad bought the C20 new and I grew up riding in the back seat. Look around and I'm sure you'll decide on what to do with the powertrain. Good luck.
