Hayden Fan clutches

2 1/2 years ago when I got my square the fan clutch was dead, I bought a duralast because it was available quickly. Unsure who makes duralast fan clutches, but last week we had a stretch of warm weather and the A/C in the truck wasn't working well at lower speeds and idle. Didn't take to long for me to realize the fan clutch had become lazy. This time I ordered a hayden unit. Back in the early 2000's I worked for a shop that had an account with company that had 100's of astro vans. We put Hayden fan clutches on them, because they were the only after market fan clutch that didn't ever cause a come back. We'll I got my severe duty 2797 Hayden fan clutch, opened up the box and embossed on the front of the clutch right next to the spring is made in KOREA. I called Hayden's tech line and was informed that they have moved most of the fan clutch manufacturing to Korea. (I had thought it might have been miss boxed somewhere along the line, which is why I called them). I couldn't believe it. I'm still debating if I'll install it or return it and order an A/C delco. Thought you'd all want to that bit of info about Hayden.

I don’t think that made in Korea means anything bad, since they are now making a lot of very high quality products. They are much more consistent quality than most of the Chinese manufactured products. However, I do wish Hayden would have been able to keep their production in the US.

Never had a problem with items made in either S. Korea or Taiwan. Mainland china yes-don't want any crap from them at all.
S. Korea started doing US military aircraft PDM's (programmed depot maintenance) in the early '80's, and their work has always been outstanding.

I agree, and I'm had good luck with WIA parts, which makes a lot of aftermarket new electric parts like wiper motors and they are out of Korea. I guess my main disappointment / surprise is Hayden leaving the US. And I'm always a little cautious of something unknown, but if they are making them to the same Hayden specs. I'll probably go ahead and give this one a shot, and see how it goes.

Delco/GM would be the best route if you value your labor. Unlikely todays GM Part is USA made but at least its made to spec if its from China like most of GM parts.

@gsuburban I image you realize this is an older thread, but I'm glad you brought it back up because I never finished up what happened. So I ended up installing two Hayden manufactured fan clutches. One would never engage, the other was stuck engaged. After that I ordered an ACDelco unit. Realize at the time the Hayden units were around $50, and the ACDelco unit around $150, and I had to wait a couple days to get the ACDelco fan clutch. Well I installed that one and it has worked flawlessly ever since.

I also learned Hayden manufactures most of the on the shelf store branded fan clutches like duralast and masterpro.

There are not a lot of fan clutch manufactures left. Hayden, and GMB are about it. I do not know if ACDelco is actually making the fan clutches they sell, but mine was marked made in Mexico.

If your at all interested I have a GMB fan clutch on my Jeep as mopar no longer produces them and the GMB has been fine. If I were to complain about it at all I'd say that I'd like it to come on just a touch sooner than it does, but it does do it's thing just fine.
