Howdy from Rowlett, Texas --> a suburb East of Dallas. I'm Jeff and I've owned my 85 Silverado for 12 years if I'm counting right. I'm a sucker for retro nostalgia, especially 80s stuff from my youth. I currently have an 81 DeLorean in addition to my Silverado. I had an 83 Ferrari 308 but sold it a couple years back. I daily drive a 17 Tahoe.
I inherited my 85 pickup from a family member. I've been using it primarily as a hunting and utility vehicle. Its a 2WD long bed with a 3 spd automatic. The engine is a bit of a mystery. I have the original window sticker, which says it came with a 305. When the previous owner was still alive, he told me he bought a low mileage wrecked 71 C10 from a police auction and robbed the 350 motor to upgrade the 85. This all seems to add up as I installed a summit racing exhaust kit a while back, which indicated it was for a 350 and bolted right up. She's running no cats now and breathes much better.
It still has the Quadrajet on top and the choke just recently crapped out, so that's something I'll mess with before cold weather. I've done a little on and off to keep it going over the years but all in all, it's been a damn good truck. My only gripe is the auto transmission. It leaks fluid, runs out of gears at 35 mph, and is just plain boring (I'm a manual guy). My long term plan for this pickup is to change it over to a manual shift. More on that later.
I wanted to say hello and become a participant of this forum. It looks like there's some good info here with some dedicated owners. I look forward to exchanging information with you guys.
