Rebuild or scrap is from the perspective of expensive if you blow a cylinder or have a bottom end failure. That motor you found is a unicorn. It is worth what you are wig to pay.
Eric

Hey Eric, I agree, they are expensive to rebuild. I guess it is a unicorn. It's old, pre Detroit Diesel. I'm not sure how if the serial number determines year of manufacturer. From what I understand, it would be between 1957 and 1965. I'm not sure what refurbished as apposed to rebuilt means but hopefully it's in running condition.

I think its super cool.

Amongst looking for things to put in a big heavy truck with 5 ton axles (my k5), I considered a Detroit 8v92ta, but it's sheer size and weight about kills it lol

I've seen some 6V swaps in pickups. I guess you have to remove the cab, stuff the engine in the frame and build the truck around it. I don't know about a K5 though.

Wouldn't have been an impossibility...
My thread is in the under construction section, under 4x4 k5's.

You are positive it's a 53 series, right? Because you don't want to be trying to get parts for a 51 series. That's a real unicorn.

Sounds like a fun project, and I am glad to hear you plan to add the Gear Vendor overdrive. The two stroke does not rev very high.

From your small picture, I can't tell if that engine is complete with an emergency stop. Please make sure when installed, you have the e-stop. Since that engine has no throttle plate and the amount of fuel added controls the RPM, you can not rely on just the throttle stop. When working on the Screaming Jimmy's, adjusting the throttle control and governor we would always have a piece of plywood ready to place over the intake.

Oh Ox you're killing me. Lol! I had to check into the 51 series. The whole blower and exhaust arrangement is different from what I can tell from a couple videos I found on YouTube. The valve cover has two center studs like the old 71's. Good looking out though, thanks!

I am not in possession of it yet, I have to take a drive next week to check it out. I saw a 6-71 run away after it was rebuilt, someone panicked and tried to choke it off with a rag and completely destroyed the blower.
