My 82 had water seeping inside from a 3" hairline crack in the metal just above and to the left of the speedo cable firewall pass-thu.

Distant shot so you can see where we're going -- thru the opening and about 3-6" under the left side of the panel.

Super close-up where you can see the cracks. It's difficult to get in here, so the factory guy who applied the seam sealer probably thought that a very small bead was good enough.

Will try to come up with a way to display larger pictures. After 15 years or more, Picture Trail said I was maxed-out unless I want to pay them.

I take pics with phone, send to gmail, use laptop to download, use IRFANVIEW (free pic program), to resize to 50% or whatever percentage works best, upload to site. Sometime pics are too large unless resize to lower percentage. Sometimes may need to increase size.

Just FYI.

Looks like you're having the same issue I am with the cowl seal. I'm in the process of getting all of the old caulk out and then I'll have to repair somehow. Mine has a few rust holes that I need to deal with but it looks like you caught your earlier than I did and may not have as much to deal with. Might just need to clean the old caulk out, try to get all of the rust out and/or use some rust converter, prime/paint, and then put some new seam sealer in it.

I take my pictures and sync them to a shared folder I have for my K5 project and then I just link the picture from my shared album so it does not takeup bandwidth on the forum server.

Same happened to me, so I just opened a second free account.
