Old cab off. Fuel sending units repaired. Ready to put new cab on.

And here comes the rain.

Jeez. That old cab was either from Whitehorse, Yukon or it was submerged in salt water after a hurricane. That's horrible.

Now I see why it's called Big Nasty! Are you going with the front sheetmetal from the donor truck or are you going to modify the new cab for your 86 sheetmetal?

I’ve got a whole cab and doors going in using 86 front clip and inner fender wells. They were not originals they didn’t have rust LOL

What year is the cab? I was asking because the hood hinges are different and I wasn't sure how you were going to accomplish that part. I know it can and has been done but I have no idea of the process to do it.

Cab is 1979. I have all the specs on where to cut the rectangular holes for the hinges to slide down into. Will be welding a reinforcing bracket for the hinges to bolt on to.

Also pulled the wiper mechanisms from the original cab so that it will all line up and come up through the cowl.

Everything will look like a 1986 when finished. Only exception is I have decided to keep the 79 dash. Door panels are coming from the 86 along with PW/L. But since the 79 dash is crack free and has tachometer....I opted not to swap steering column and dash.

It's good to see more of that nice donor truck going to good use.

And my vote goes to 70's front clip![/I

I was torn between modifying hinges/cowl area and sourcing a front clip. Then my son said he preferred the quad lights vs. the round eyes.

There isn’t any rust in hood or fenders. I am thinking they were replaced when someone tried to fill the gaping holes with body filler.

Total mess. At least the bed isn’t to rough! :)

I agree. I like my stacked headlights on the 87' and I don't think they look bad, but I like the sheetmetal from the older trucks so much better. The shape of the hood and the bumper are much more detailed, and I've always been a sucker for round bulbs in a square bezel on any car...

I hear ya! I Now have 2wd frame in my yard with a 350/Th350 screaming “build out a round eye hot rod”.

See if I don’t stumble onto a 70’s long bed to cut down next. LOL
