Ive seen many people drill out the holes to fit bigger studs.

Ive also seen street-rods Bust both wheels off with nhra studs.

You don't have to drill out the rotor, just get some 9/16 lugs that will fit. I did it to my truck when I put 20x12 wheels on it. They are way stronger than the stock 7/16 lugs. Although if you want to do it to the rear, you will have to drill out the holes on the drum.
