gas tank problem

Hi there everybody. I have a 77 chevy k10 with saddle bag tanks. I replaced both sending and all hardware. Put new fuel hoses from the fill neck to tank and overflow hose, but everytime I try to put gas in it, it spills out down the side of my truck. The only way to get gas in it is to pull the gas lever real slow. It takes forever to fill up. Any suggestion on how to fix this would be great. I thought it might be the short fill necks on the nozzles but not sure.

I had the same problem for a while. Every time I went to fill up, it spat it all back at me. Turns out the tank was full... I replaced the sending unit, ALL rubber fuel lines, including the filler hose and filler vent when I finally realized what was going on. Have you done all this, and made sure you know how much gas you have?

By overflow hose do you mean the small vent hose that runs along the filler pipe? A clogged vent hose can also cause the fuel to spit out while filling.

That was something else I did when I dropped the tank, I used an air compressor and blew all the crap out of the vent line that goes to the charcoal canister. I dunno if that helped or not, but I know mine is fixed now!

Yea checked all that and the lines are all new from lmc truck. Could it be that its the California pumps. The nozzles seem to be shorter and didn't know if that would cause it or not

Ah, that could be your problem. When I got to fill up here in FL, I have to play with the nozzle a bit to get it to not kick off. I usually have to pull it out a bit, and bring the nozzle up a tad. That usually seems to work. I have heard of problems with those stupid CA fuel nozzles... Good luck I guess!

also make sure your breather hose on your fill system is above the fill hose. if it's level or below you will have this problem. highdesertranger

yea I normally have to push it in as hard as possible and barely pull the lever. Even then it spills or kicks off. I didn't think of looking at the level of the vent hose i'll diffently be takin a look at that. And thanks guys for all the input. greatly appreciated.
