Ordered some new gas tank brackets off eBay and tried to install them last weekend. The new brackets don’t have nuts welded on the inside of bracket, and the holes also didn’t line up on the front bracket.

Does anyone know of a place to order some oem style brackets?

Just did my 87. Pay attention to which set of holes the straps go in. Ask me how I know, lol

Have you exhausted efforts to find used OE brackets?

I did t pay much attention when removing them like a dummy. The front bracket has two holes for the strap, so of course I tried the top one and the stud would hit the Frame and not line up with the hole that’s in the frame. So dropped the tank again and tried to get the strap to go into the lower hole with zero luck! Said screw it and put the original ones back on.

This is my next step. Trying to track down a junker around here that’s not demolished should be fun

Do you need the frame bracket or just the straps? I have an extra set of straps if you want them.

New brackets don't come with the weld nuts on them. I had to drill one hole I believe on the front bracket for the drivers side tank. My truck had the primary tank on the passenger side only.

Bingo! My experiance exactly. I was able to undo my mistake however and get the new straps into the old brackets. I used pop rivets for a newer cars window regulators to secure the straps to the brackets. 1/4 inch I think with the big washer on them.

My straps are good, the brackets are what’s rusting

Just use nuts with lock washers on the inside of the brackets. It's kinda a PITA, but it works just fine. Hold a nut in a box end wrench with one hand and tighten the bolts with the other hand, while the empty tank is supported by a jack.

The holes will line up with the frame. Pay attention to whether you're using the frame holes for the 16 gallon tank or the 20 gallon tank. The gas tanks and brackets should sit a little lower then the frame rails.

Also valuable advice. Been there, done that, too!
