Has anyone done this? Any pitfalls I should know of? Is the pump right in the middle of the tank?

My plan is to bolt on two pieces of angle iron for a support and then weld on nuts on the bottom of those angles to allow big round head slotted screws to secure the cut out panel. Then I'd tape it up with foil tape and put the carpet back. Ready for next time....... Really, though, I'm just not looking forward to dropping that big ol' 40 gallon tank.

That's my plan if I ever have to change the pump. I plan on mounting some sort of RV access door over the hole though.

Cool. When I do it I'll post pics. Wish I knew for sure where to start cutting though! Anyone? Anyone?

You can kind of see it from the rear fender well, across the top of the tank, there's like a 1" gap between the tank and the cab floor. I had the evap canister hose come off the tank is how I know, it was a pain to get back on the nipple on top of the tank.

Thanks, all - just what I was looking for. The pump isn't supposed to show up till Monday, but if I have time I may cut the access and engineer the replacement panel this weekend. Got to install my pressure gauge and adapter on the fuel line at the throttle body, too.

When you lift up the carpet and insulation, you will see where the crossmembers are spot-welded to the floor. Just keep it between those spot welds and go wide enough to have some working room. Then when you add some simple flanges to the piece you cut out, you have the meat of the crossmembers to screw the panel down to.

Perfect, thanks! Helpful info on where to cut and how to re-secure. Didn't get to it this weekend. Hopefully next....

I'd say I hit the dims and placement of the hole pretty well! Thanks, all, for the help. Just have to do the actual replacement now. My system for mounting the panel back in is almost done too. I'll post pics in a day or two when that's done.
