Yeah, the stem for the cap is just a hair too tall. There is a nub on the hood skeleton (idk what thats actually called) that contacts the rad cap...just barely.

How much "persuading" could I do with hammer or grinder with out compromising the hood integrity?

Yeah, the stem for the cap is just a hair too tall. There is a nub on the hood skeleton (idk what thats actually called) that contacts the rad cap...just barely.

How much "persuading" could I do with hammer or grinder with out compromising the hood integrity?

Pics? How close is it to closing?

  • Its damn close....i would NEVER....but, it could be forced. That big comes down on the outside edged of the cap where in pointing.

Honestly, you already have a scoop riveted into the hood, so I would either cut out a recess or hammer it down. Cutting it out would probably be better for clearance and I wouldn't think it would hurt strength in that location.

Smh...yeah...im not a fan, I most def did not do that. It , serves zero purpose and looks a little silly IMHO. I think they look tough enough from the factory.

Maybe could be made to serve a purpose? Im sure there is a good thread on such things.

Time to get the grinder out....

Lol... not trying to hate, just pointing out that you wouldn't be destroying a mint condition OEM hood. The newer hoods are much easier to find anyways, so I wouldn't feel too bad about a little "clearancing", especially if you cut out just the inner skin cleanly. Keep the cut out part and it could even be patched back in fairly easily in the future.

I'm betting that wont solve it. Maybe try taking the whole cap off and see if it closes? That would verify whether you could solve it with a cap or whether you need to modify the hood no matter what.

I tried 3 different caps I had laying around. None solved it. The cut out did. Shuts cleanly. I'll dress the cut and get it painted. What are they using to glue the support to the hood? Figured I could re attach. Either side.
