Found a np 205 at pick-n-pull

was at the yard today looking for some TBI parts and saw an 70s or early 80s ( a lot of stuff was missing - couldn’t tell) 3/4 or 1 ton 4x4 square. Crawled underneath and saw a th400/205 combo. Meant to get a quote on the 205 when I was paying but forgot and they were wanting to close up. Looked up their price list just now and t-cases are listed for $150 plus $15 core. Seems like a sweet deal for a 205?? I’m not sure I’d ever do the conversion on my burb. Seems like a lot of work: adapter machining, VSS conversion, driveshaft length, shifter relocate, etc. but it is the dream... if I bought it it’d be for the “you never know” situation. Or to resell possibly.

yeah, $165 for a 205 would be a screaming deal. Especially with the 32 spline input from the 400.

you can always tap the trans adapter for a vss sensor and put a reluctor wheel on the output shaft of the trans.

Scoop it and stash it!
If you ever want to build something strong... plus you can twin stick it and that's a blast to operate. Switch to front wheel drive going up and around a greasy switchback on logging roads, or traversing off camber in the snow or grease. Two wheel drive low range if you like as well.

I'd grab the th400 too. Doesn't matter if it's the figure 8 style or the round pattern style, both combos are very desirable.

Damn.. y'all are going to make me feel guilty. I'd love to go get that thing but I don't think it's going to happen. thinking of the logistics required to get that heavy-ass cast iron 205 out from under that truck in the rocky salvage yard gives me the shivers. Fall is just about the busiest time of year for me and the Pacific NW rains are supposed to start this week...

If someone in driving distance of Portland, OR wants it, let me know. I'd be able to go back and get some pics (make 100% sure it is what I said it is) maybe even help out.

My 73K20 has a 205 in it, and it's has zero slop, whereas my 73 k10 has a chain type and it is sloppy, but has never given me any trouble. I am in the process gathering parts for a LQ4 turbo swap so thankful for the 205. I will mate it with the 4L80e that came with the motor.
