You may not like 3 bolt flanges, but they are better than 2 bolts.
My motto is buy once cry once. I hate doing the same job over and over again, it is possible on a budget.

For sure ditch the 3 bolt flanges, I think hedman are the ones who has a ball flange style and those are the next best thing to v bands.
I have Hedmans on my '94 K1500 and their collector style works very well, and at 62 yrs old I've had alot of headers and I now always want this style.

Even if you don't have the headmans with the ball and socket connection, you can get the same thing with "header buddies". @Catbox turned me on to them on another thread and that's what I'll be using when I redo the exhaust, with an H-pipe also, at the same time I do the 454 swap. Jones exhaust makes some and summit also has some generic ones.

These are the ones I'm planning on using. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/jex-ahb3

Yes sir.
I will be installing a set of the Header Buddies on my up coming new exhaust project.
The whole exhaust will be brand new (along with the H pipe) and all 3 inch to back up the 454 in the truck.

That's great that there is a retro-fit alternative

I am going to say that I did not read though all of the posts, but hopefully something I say here won't have already been brought up and you'll find useful. There is no way that I would ever do dual exhausts today without a H-pipe. The reasons and benefits are simple. Balance.

Here's a story as just one example. Years ago a customer came in with a Dodge class C motorhome from the 70's. Complaint was constant overheating, and smell when going up long, but not necessarily steep hills. And vapor locking. Tried a couple things with no luck. Long story short turned out his new mufflers, did not flow the same, this essentially caused exhaust gas to be constantly going though the crossover in the manifold and heating everything up.

I could go on with examples, but an H-pipe will cause your engine to be better balanced in the exhaust and may make it last longer.

I'm going with a 3" x-pipe style exhaust for my build, with dual Flowmonster mufflers. Got the x-pipe kit for $100 from Holley.com. I'll let you know how it sounds when I get it up and running...

Holy bajeezus f@ck thats just what ive been looking for. Ive used donut gaskets from a IHI turbo for years to do something similar between the collectors. It works for a good while yes..but eventually slips and leaks. I will be ordering the header buddies as soon as i finish this post.
THANK YOU @Bextreme04

I always heard - from whom I cant remember - its' one of those "They always said..." - kind of things.

But really, I always heard that an 'X' pipe (vs. H) was better at getting rid of drone from scavagging- if you're going to do it - do an 'x'.

Again, not so sure if it's true, but, they always said it. (so it must be true, right?)

It's pretty rare to see a 2.5" collector on a SBC or BBC header in my experience. You might be able to contact jones and see if they make one and it just isn't popular enough to show up on summit.

Ive emailed them already. If not ill just keep using the double chamfered 2.5 gaskets ive been using for years.
Every set of headers ive had were cheap no names with 2.5 collectors, but were always on the truck when i got it, except these stainless ones i bought. I actually thought it was the more common size due to having 5 sets of them but again...ive only owned cheapo headers that were "period correct" aka "cheap, rusty, and old". This is my first truck to really drop $$$$ on.
