Hello Everyone!

I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. Thanks for having me!

I have a White 1987 Chevy Silverado SWB and I have three questions for the group.

First, when running there is a "squeak" or small noise that sounds like it's coming through the speaker system and even is present when the stereo is off. It sounds like a faint cricket chirping sound and never changes volume. Just a low, continuous chirping noise. Any ideas?

Second question, I'm wanting to lower my truck with a 4/6 drop. Any suggestions on springs and shocks?

Third question, my truck has a practically new 350v8 with a Holley carburetor. What are some suggestions for upgrading to EFI?

Thanks for your input!

Welcome! If you temporarily disconnect the radio, does the noise stop? Do you have an amplifier? Short of needing an exorcism that's an odd one but not impossible to figure out. I can't offer any advice on the drop, my K20 went the other direction. However, I have lots of experience with EFI. My advice would be simply if you want EFI, get true EFI. That does not include "TBI" systems (Sniper for example). Get an entire direct port system as a kit. Buy once -cry once. Design the fuel system like the factory did (In-tank pump (s)) and enjoy a reliable, trouble free system. It looks like you have a great platform to start with.
PS. Whatever you do, don't ever, ever, spell axle wrong.

Strange question since the pic looks like it basically has a 4/6 drop already….
You're right, and I should clarify. It was already dropped when I bought it. But, the front tires are bottoming out when I transverse any little hump. So, I thought the coil springs and shocks need to be changed or upgraded as they appear to be cheap or low-grade. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Welcome! Sometimes cheap spark plug wires can cause radio interference, I’ve experienced it myself. Does it increase and decrease with engine speed? My moms old Chevette did that when I was a kid.

As far as the lowering goes, there is a sticky thread that will tell you all. https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/wanna-slam-that-63-98-c10-c1500-lets-talk-about-it.38131/
It has new good quality plug wires. It does not increase with engine speed, nor does the radio have to be powered on.

SquareRoot, no amplifier and it does not stop when radio is disconnected. The sound reminds me of glass on rubber squeak.

I'll heed your advice on the EFI. The truck was originally set up as EFI so the tanks and pumps are there. Thanks!

Have you pulled the fuse to the radio, just to know that's where the problem is?
I have not pulled the fuse, I'll try that next. Thanks!

So if it's not coming from the radio, that leaves the engine, transmission, fuel system, cooling system and exhaust system. However, based on your description, I'd bet you have something loose or rubbing, metal to metal. I'll bet you don't have a headliner?

Reason I ask is because a squeak inside the cab bounces around the metal and makes it impossible to pinpoint. Even engine vibration can cause a seat bracket to squeak and drive a guy insane in the membrane. Maybe consider an LS Swap. It won't make the noise go away but you won't care about it anymore. ;)

As far as the squeak is concerned, perhaps it's the blower motor? Try speeding up the blower.
