Just wanted to say hey. I've been passively looking for a square body crew cab for years. I finally pulled the trigger on a 1985 3/4 ton 454.

I plan on fixing it up to pull our small travel trailer. May do an LS swap and a short bed conversation.

Welcome and what a nice truck..
toss the LS and stroke the 454... get some good heads, 781 for example, high compression and propane with twin mixers/regulators..
Or, I don't care what fuel you want to run but for sure consider just rebuilding that BB into a 496..

Howdy!

Single wheel crew cabs are cool! I also vote to stick with a big block. Heavy trucks need grunt, especially when a trailer gets involved. Plus, you already have one under the hood, so it will greatly simplify things.

"Conversation"! Lol. I didn't notice that. Auto correct must have got me.

I will keep the 454 in it for a while and see how bad of mileage it gets while I fix the little things.

It had been sitting in a field for years. We hauled it home on a trailer. I had to replace a couple of wires the mice chewed in two. Pulled the carb cleaned it. Ran a hose from fuel pump to a gas can. Put a battery in and it started up and purred.

It still needs lots of work. But I'm excited about it.

Welcome to the site. Short bed conversations go a long way around here.

Should average 10 mpg, maybe a couple more if you only drive the interstate. That's the nice thing about a big block though, you can hop it up and build a real animal out of it, mpg will stay the same.
