Does anybody know of a flat (stock style) Fiberglass hood for 81-89 squarebody trucks? I have interest in buying one for my 88 Blazer and this is my effort to stray from cowl induction types. I imagine i'll probably have to run one since I want fiberglass but thought i'd see what you all know. About that.
Im gearing up to buy 5x aluminum wheels and i've settled on a steel roll pan in further efforts to reduce weight and my third choice will be to buy a fiberglass hood. Reckon i'll put 255/70s on layaway - 29s from 31s will produce a marked weight loss also. I can ditch a couple hundred pounds all together..
That's a lot! Almost a full tank of gas! Everybody knows how much faster their truck goes when the tank is low..that has been my goal. 250 pounds I want to lose...where can I buy a flat fiberglass hood?

I REALLY don't like the fact it weighs so much. It would go so much faster on a diet...I can't stop thinking about it. I want to hit 100 mph without blowin up another turbo 350...

I can find em for 600 bucks - 580?- ive got the same internet you do..anybody actually have one?

Harwood the way to go? 2.25" cowl and keep the money in my pocket ? Circle track stuff is pretty cheap..

Heres one for $245 thats a decent price for new. 1" would be okay to save $400.

I dont want a bigger motor - I want a fiberglass hood. It will do the same thing.

That's not so bad..flat hoods cost more?
Need it done as cheap as possible. Manufacturer recommends hood pins - gets it pushin $300.

I could run a 4 inch air filter that way..i need the diesel airbox?

I don't have a source for you but pretty sure any fiberglass body parts will require bodywork. I like your idea of aluminum wheels, un-sprung weight is where its at. Another thig to consider is a fiberglass front bumper. I assume rear bumper being deleted if going roll pan? Do you have to keep rear seats in all the time (if its the K5)? Need a full size spare tire? Some people remove the inner fender liners, but that's more racing oriented.

Buddy ive been on this one for years...
I want a fibre/poly/aluminum hood for mine so I can go "pin on" style. All for the ease of removal when working in the engine bay.
If I could afford to I would have a carbon fiber uni body made and go full Pikes Peak with the Square.

I love that company, so much variety of available applications.

They show an '81-up plain hood as a HD bolt-on and also a race weight pin-on hood.

Seems kinda cheap to buy, reckon it invilves a lot of work to fit em though?
OE steel wheelwells are HEAVY AF! Reckon one could shave a lot of weight here. Right over the wheels too...tempting! Will keep in mind.

No extra holes turns me on big time.

The are the only ones that make stuff for '73-'77 Chevelles.

I have a glass Front bumper and two glass hoods.

The steel hood was 80 lbs; my flat bolt on glass hood is 40 lbs; the cowl pin on race hood is 20 lbs.

One other thought: I don't think you are going to want to lift off that hood every time you work on the motor. It's like carrying a horizontal piece of drywall around by yourself.

I made some adapters (a little ghetto, I know) and Dzus'd the lift off hood to those. That way the 99% of the time when I just want to check something by myself I can open the hood normally; the 1% of the time when things are serious I undo the 4 Dzus fasteners, get somebody to help set the hood aside, and dig in.
