I thought I had heard about this before but took me some time to locate a write up on it. The 0411 PCM can be used as a stand alone transmission controller, you just need a TPS and RPM input. It's also readily available in junkyards in '01-'02vehicles. I'll probably work on this as my next project so I have OD by next summer since I'm putting in axles with 4.11's this weekend. This is a great alternative to buying one of those expensive kits if you've got time and patience. The write up uses HP Tuners and I have EFI Live so I'll have to figure some stuff out but it's a good general knowledge know-how.

Here's the write up on it

Here's a quick list of the vehicles that had it though it's not complete (taken from efilive.com)
One from any of these vehicles should work, just make sure its actually a #12200411.

The Express and Savanna Van's also run the old school small block. I have my eyes open for cheap ones, to scavenge the 0411 and the drivetrain, so I can transfer stuff to my 400 for EFI.

To go to EFI using an 0411 you will need at least a 4 tooth reluctor wheel (usually behind the timing chain) or you can go to 24x and use coil on plug and get rid of the distributor cap (you still need it in place to run the oil pump) There are all kinds of options.

I converted a 99 454 to coil on plug (near plug) The Vortec distributor cap sucks.

I hadn't thought about using it as strictly a transmission controller. I have a 4l80e in the backyard that would be really nice with the 454 in the dually... I also have like 4 of the 0411 PCM's in the garage...

The last one I bought was $17, but they have gone up a little. I already have HPTuners and a bench flash setup, so programming is easy.

I'd be happy to help if you get serious about it.

You can get a 0411 with connectors for $50 all day long from multiple sources online. The wiring for the trans is pretty simple and easy to do, your best bet would be to try and get the harness for the 4L80E when you get the transmission from a junkyard so you have the right connector ends. Then you can rewire if you want. You can get a OBDx ProVT for $60 and then tune and flash the ECM for free using TunerPro and PCM Hammer on your laptop. Like you said, you just need tach and TPS. You should be able to get a TPS sensor to work, they sell kits for edelbrocks and holly and the 81-up quadrajets could have a TPS in some applications but I'm not sure if it gives the right signal or could be adapted. I bet there is a way to adapt an LS TPS to go off the primary throttle shaft with some ingenuity.

Have a 1999 LQ4 with a 4l80e has an 896 ecm, they work well like the 411. I am just about ready to do this to the BBC 454/205 transfer case. about 600.00 for the parts, I will machine the 205 for the larger bearing. Since the trans is a couple inches longer, I will shorten the rear drive line on my lathe, and buy the correct DOM tubing to lengthen the front drive line. Of course pic! Noteworthy, both the 6.0 LQ4 and the 5.7 LS1 use the same controller, LQ4 with the 4l80e, the LT1 with the t56. In 1999, the GM# 16238212 PCM was replaced with the GM# 09354896 PCM. Vehicles using these PCMs included the Corvette, Camaro, Firebird, and full-size trucks. The full-size trucks were available with the 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L engines. The only GM calibrations used with these PCMs were for Gen III engines, which were all equipped with a 24x crank reluctor. The final update to the 512-kb series of PCMs was the introduction of the GM# 12200411 PCM in 2001. With the exception of the 2003 Corvette, this PCM was used through 2002. This PCM is considered the most desirable because of its versatility. General Motors used this PCM with Gen III engines (Corvette, Camaro, Firebird, and trucks), Gen I small-block engines (5.0L and 5.7L Express Van), and Vortec 4.3L V-6 engines (S10 pickup, Blazer, and Express Van). These were both 512-kb series. 2003 up were 1mg. Both motors are cable throttle body. Many sources for info, how to repin, removing the theft stuff, and etc. I will document with text and pics, part#, prices and etc. I will try to keep the swap under 1500.00, trans, transfer upgrade, pcm throttle pos sensor and etc. Yes I will screw up, (maybe,) but having driven the 454 in the truck for a year, one 350 trans later, (I rebuilt it myself with judicious selection of performance parts 4L60e center support, Sonix heat treated race, 32 element sprag, all new bushings, races, clutches and etc), it is holding together. Yes I do lots of burn outs recently as my 16.5 BF Goodrich All Terrains are close to maypop statis, and no longer available in 16.5, so going to steelies stock hubcaps. I will post a pic of the LAST BURNOUT as proof.

I got mine from an Astro van with controller. It's going behind a 500 caddy, but of course I didn't see anything involving ECM flashing and TPS. Anyone mated one up to an older, carbed engine?

I just did it to a 69 gmc with a 350 and a Carter afb carb.

The harder part is getting a tach signal to the ECM. I was able to use the tach output on the HEI and a resistor, (I don't recall which value, I tried several) and once I got a clean signal then I had to adjust the tach settings in HPTuners to have it read the correct RPM.

I am thinking of adding a MAP sensor so that the transmission shift points can be fine tuned more.

I had a 4l80 from an astro van, but it was late ninties. Got rid of it and got one from a 90 chevy 3500. I hope this wasn't a mistake, but through research, I read that the 90 to 95 used a TCM and you can get those pretty cheap and doesn't require reprograming/flashing/tun as I don't have efilive, or hp tuners and would rather not get them.

So for these TCMs, I read that you just have to have the part number, which depends on the year.

I am learning as I go along, so anyone else know about this? I hope I am not mistaking the TCM for the pCM0411.

I believe the separate TCM for the 4L80E was only used with the '91-'95 diesel engines. Gassers did not get a separate controller. Also, that Astro transmission would have done you no good... I don't believe the 4L80E was ever used in those, you likely had a 4L60E. Now about the trans you have now, are you absolutely positive it was from a '90?

I have a 1991 k2500 suburban with the 4l80e and am following along as I have both a ebl ecu with the programming stuff and also 2 of the 0411 hopefully right ones from a express van with a 5.7 and the 4l80e. I am of course not sure if that is what was really sold me. I was hopeing some one would post pictures of a correct label off of a 0411 that actually came out of the 01 express van with the 5.7/4l80e combo so I would not have to do the initial programming along with spending more money on the liscensing stuff. Im 80 and not sure I have the wherewithal to take on the programming stuff on this venture. The plan is to build a 400 stock shortblock with afr 195 heads and a howards retrofit roller cam and a edlebrock proflo efi intake. The truck is 4.10 geared so it is mostly just a mild towing, pasture roads and street hwy truck. The pcms I have have hdw no. 09386530 and DMNP with another no. 12212431 on one and the other has 09386530 also but 12208511 and DLAC I think the *86 before the DLAC must be the vin no.on each one. Oh yeah I also have a 86 k5 blazer with a ramjet with the mefi4 that i have been using since about 2002 except for a long 9 yr rest while I used the 91 as it fit my needs ok for awhile now I want to go back to the burb. I also have a 93 k1500 to use as a pickup. Sorry for the intrusion. Just looking for the labels to be correct on the pcms as they are now called. I think I will start a new thread on this question.
