factory gauges to autometer

looking to swap out my factory gauges to autometer or something. and swap the fuel to the rpm and get a small fuel gauge to put in the little cluster. can i swap out just the gauges and not have to re-run wires?

actually if he could find gauges that would plug into the cluster it is possable, BUT the new gauges would have to have all the terminals in the same place as the factory, Only thing he might have to do is re pin his connector for the tach and the fuel gauge.

BUT I would agree I would rather just build my own little gauges harness that would plug into the vehichle connector. That way you just have to unplug 1 connector if you ever need to remove the panel.

ok.. my truck had auto meter gauges * or something like them* in it when I got it.. to do that thou you have to ditch the circuit board, and hard wire the gauges, also need to cut a little opening in the back of the dash gauge panel for each gauge to fit into the stock holes.. honestly its a real pain in the Butt and not worth the trouble..

I wouldn't spend $800 on guages if I had a $15,000 motor. I'd say the answer to the OP's question is, NO. Sure you can modify your bezel to accept the AutoMeter aftermarket guages, but you'd have to do away with the circuit board and wire your own guages. Of course if you know which wires do what, you can likley use the OEM wires from the circuit board plug, but you'd be curring the plug off. JMO . And it can be done for alot less than $800.

Both had to be rewired, it's not that hard.

Slowly working on exchanging all mine to Auto Meter. I plan on rewiring for the new guages. That way, I KNOW how/where they are wired for accuracy and troubleshooting.

EXACTLY how I'd handle it too. And a whole lot less than $800 or even $500.

I like full sweep guages. In these 2, I like the Auto Meters much better, but, I know there is also a big difference in price too. I"d probably have to settle for the Equiss too.

One thing I noticed about the Equis gauges I have is their faces match the OEM speedo and Fuel gauge. I got my set from Orielys for about 30 bucks and found they fit in the stock holes really nicely, I might end up mounting them in the cluster after seeing all of this.

I just got done taking my whole cluster apart cleaning and testing all the gauges to find out why the previous owner said they didnt work was becouse they had unhooked the damn things on the motor and didnt knwo what they were doing. So now i have to chase all the wires and reconnect them and get new sending units to make the oil pressure and temp to work.

There easy to mount in the cluster i just cut lines on the back side of the gauge holes and pushed the gauges through

It is my opinion that VDO makes the highest quality guages. I have had to replace Cyberdyne and Autometer guages over time, however I have never replaced a VDO guage. The cost for the guages are very similar. The hassle is replacing it after a couple years. F.Y.I.
