My late grandfathers 72 c20 has a 350 with 2 inch duals, 18 inch glasspacks, no crossover. Sounds pretty good, not super loud but what I'd call respectable.

I like Flo Pro, V Force mufflers. Good sound, cheap and a quality product.

Have you considered Magnaflows? IMO Magnaflows are a happy medium sound-wise between old school glasspacks and modern flowmaster style. I have true dual, 2 1/2 magnaflows on my '76 vette and love the sound. I have a single, 3" on the burb though and it's too loud at heavy throttle (awesome at idle though). I've been told the longer version would help with that.

I have a 2-1/4" Magnaflow on my VW and it does sound pretty good.
The case is doing just fine on it, the packing has deteriorated some in the 10 years of daily driving it though.

I’ve listened to them. While I think it’s a good sound, and I’ll go back and listen again, I think I want something that’s more old school on the sound spectrum. The problem is that there are a lot of crappy, low quality sound clips on YouTube, and it’d be a lot more productive to hear my options in person.

I was doing vids of my burb's new 383 (got it running today!) so I shot a vid of my Vette starting up. Hopefully it's a little better quality than some of the other crap up on YouTube. I hear you on the retro thing. I definitely think they're more old school than Flowmasters -- I would never put those on my Vette -- but glasspacks are even more old school than Magnaflows. The Vette is true dual 2 1/2. The burb is a single 3" magnaflow - you can hear that on my 383 build thread. I really do like the sound of those Porters, though!
