Has anyone ran a Y-Pipe off Long Tube headers on a 4x4 Chasis?
looking to run one and can’t find anything that works with long tubes for the 73-87 Chasis. Assuming i’ll have to build my own but before it gets to that figured i’d ask everyone on the forum if they knew ‍♂️. (no i’m not using the crossover pipe in the picture)

Just make it . Pie slice for bends and weld it back together. Use 3”

What's the deal with wrapped headers? I was thinking about doing that with mine.

What's the deal with wrapped headers? I was thinking about doing that with mine.
With out going in super detail because it was discussed heavily in another thread but moisture forms after shut down and when they are wrapped it can’t evaporate. This is what rots them out.

headers are wrapped because they sit within 1-2” of my oilfilter and starter on both sides. my spark plug wires are also very close if not touching. so they need to be wrapped to help prevent problems. if the truck isn’t being driven it sits inside a shop under a cover, and when it is driven it’s not in rain

haha , that’s me sitting there deciding how i’m gonna fit everything under the chassis with driveshafts and transfer case

this seems to be a common idea that i tend to not agree with. not saying its wrong just my experience say differently.

lot of my experiences come from the honda world and we often buy headers from ebay. they are cheap and a basic knock off of a regular 3-2-1 header design. i ran a cheap ebay header on my civic for probably 3 years or longer. first year without wrapping them. the other 2 years i did have them wrapped.

when i went turbo i got rid of the header obviously and i pulled the wrap off of them and found that they looked no different than when i wrapped them (other than a bit dirty i suppose) and i drove that car daily through rain and snow and all. (also it is lowered and the heady would often drag the ground even so it certainly got wet)

when you drive your vehicle the headers heat up obviously and any moisture built up on them will evaporate. now i know my experience was not a very long time but with the what people say it seems like it is enough time to have caused rusting.

this also may be the difference in a daily driver and a vehicle that doesnt get driven often. so think that if you drive it enough for the moisture to evaporate then yea its going to sit on the pipes and likely rust them out faster than if they where in open air. but im no scientist or anything im just some douche bag on the internet lol. i may have to check out the other thread mentioned and see what info others have found.

just throwing that out there as my personal experience i dont think the header wrap will cause an issue.
