Has anyone on here purchased one of this type of kit to fab your own exhaust? I have a lot of welding and pipe fab experience, so that part wouldn't be too hard

I’ve not used them myself, but I believe @Catbox had gotten some similar on close out from Eastwood(?), 3” diameter kits I think.

I've used similar kits to build 3 different exhausts. One kit did almost 2 other than a few bends and straight pieces and then I bought the Pypes universal x kit for my square.

I would step up to stainless or at least aluminized pipe. I like to weld most of it and put a couple of the accuseal style clamps in there to make it removable in sections. One of these makes for easy to weld lap joints and you can expand the joints a little oversize to cheat the bends for alignment if needed. Good luck

Yes.
We have used two kits from Eastwood and two kits from DNA on ebay / Amazon.
Wherever you can get the best deal.

For the raw steel systems, we just used barbeque black spray paint for corrosion resistance.

This is what was first put under my son's '49 truck, then he finished the tailpipes out to under the bumper.

Recently we built this set for my brothers '72 truck.

We live in an area that does not use salt on the roads during winter, so the rust out should take longer.
If it becomes an issue, the stainless option will be employed next time.

I really liked the DIY kit I got from speedway motors. The pipes are mandrel bent and thicker steel than what's on hand at the parts store. I bought a little section from O'Reilly to finish when I ran short and the difference in quality was significant.
