You might want to experiment with initial timing. Try backing it off or increasing it 2 deg at a time and drive it for a couple of days. I usually end up at 8. You have to find the sweet spot for your engine.

I did not. I’m learning a lot of this as I go. Didn’t know to unplug the advance. What does that do?
If your vacuum advance receives ported vacuum, you probably won't have much if any vacuum going to it at idle, but if it receives manifold vacuum, you will receive enough to advance the timing about 5 - 7 degrees at idle speeds, maybe more.
